Meaning residue: consequences of phenomenological transformation of action theory in frame-analysis

Abstract

The article deals with the reconceptualization of Weber’s notion of the «meaning of action» held by phenomenology. Phenomenological sociology is one of the theoretical grounds of Goffman’s frame-analysis. The author shows how the main theses of action theory which were transformed by their phenomenological interpretation are embodied in frame-analysis and further revised.
