Two understandings of everyday life in frame analysis and James''s assumption about solving contradictories

Abstract

There are two contradictory understandings of everyday life in Erving Goffman’s frame analysis. According to the first, reality of everyday life is paramount and other worlds are only its transformations. In another understanding everyday life is one of many realities with equal status, it also can be considered as a result of other worlds transformations. Current paper provides historico-theoretical analysis of roots of this contradiction, an attempt to solve it is also made.
