From laboratory to field: a case of germ theory development in Russia

Abstract

The article dwells on the relation between establishment of a new branch of scientific knowledge and external contextual factors. The author analyses the case of germ theory history in the tsarist Russia the author and shows that the new knowledge went beyond laboratories and became eagerly sought by society and other scientists thanks to an external circumstance that is a cholera epidemic.
