Stealing Protest: An Essay on a Frame Analysis of the Mass Public Event

Abstract

The article deals with the mechanism of stealing civil protest by the Party officials from the point of view of the frame analysis. The communication structures (frames) of the traditional party officials and «new protesters» mass public events are compared in the study. A case of the mass public events in Tyumen in December 2011 shows the apparent attempt by the party officials and «new protesters» to cooperate together in maintaining and extending the protest movement, but really, this led to the downturn in protest activity due to the cultural incompatibility of the first and second ones, which was manifested in face-to-face interaction.
