Abstract

In general practice, the physical examination forms a pivotal part of the consultation. The observations and findings which arise during the examination form the foundation to treatment and the management of illness. But usually sociological characteristics of professional medical conduct disregard the contingent and situated organization of clinical practice, and the ways in which medical practice is accomplished in and through inter-
